Serotonin

Serotonin is a molecule that is found in plants as well as in the human body. It is a major neurotransmitter in the brain, but is mostly produced in the gut. Serotonin is made from an essential amino acid called tryptophan found in certain foods such as chocolate, nuts, cheese, and poultry. This molecule plays a key role in body functions including mood, sleep, digestion, nausea, wound healing, bone health, blood clotting and sexual desire.
