Ketamine Treatment for Migraines & Chronic Headaches at Nushama

An alternative treatment for migraine & headache relief beyond traditional methods.

Chronic migraines and severe headaches can significantly impact daily life, often resisting traditional medical treatments. Emerging research suggests that ketamine therapy could provide a promising alternative, particularly for those who have not found relief through conventional methods. Ketamine, an NMDA receptor antagonist, has been studied for its unique ability to provide rapid pain relief, potentially easing the intensity and frequency of migraine episodes.

At Nushama, we offer ketamine therapy as part of a comprehensive journey protocol that supports both mental and physical well-being. Studies indicate that ketamine may reduce inflammation and reset pain pathways in the brain, which can lead to sustained improvements in headaches and/or migraines. While the complete mechanisms by which ketamine affects migraines and headaches are still under investigation, preliminary data points to its capacity to alter the way the brain processes pain signals, offering a new hope to sufferers.

If you are struggling with persistent headaches or migraines and traditional therapies have failed to provide adequate relief, ketamine therapy at Nushama might be the next step in your journey towards reclaiming your comfort and enhancing your quality of life.

How Ketamine Therapy Works for Headaches & Migraines

Unlike traditional treatments, ketamine interacts with NMDA receptors in the brain, which are crucial in the modulation of pain. By temporarily blocking these receptors, ketamine can disrupt pain signals and provide rapid relief from intense and persistent headache symptoms.

Research indicates that ketamine’s efficacy in treating headaches stems from its ability to reduce neurogenic inflammation, a key factor in migraine episodes, and reset pain processing pathways. This results in not only immediate symptom relief but also potentially extended periods of reduced headache frequency and intensity. Our treatment protocol leverages these mechanisms, combining ketamine infusions with supportive care tailored to enhance each patient’s response to the medication. This integrated approach aims to improve overall quality of life and offer a sustainable reduction in headache symptoms.

02

Preparation

Ketamine therapy is unlike any other treatment you are likely to have encountered, so preparing your mind and body for the experience is critical. We’ll give you information on how to cultivate a positive mindset in the weeks leading up to your journey. We will also encourage you to set an intention before each infusion—a goal or purpose for your journey that will help direct the experience and gather insights—and then “let go.”

03

Psychedelic Treatment Sessions

Nushama physicians or doctors typically administer 6 treatments/infusions over a 3-6 week period, receiving up to 2 infusions per week. The treatments take place in a serene environment with ambient music. Vitals and anesthesia levels are constantly monitored by Nushama doctors and nurses to ensure the highest level of safety.

04

Integration

Licensed therapists or trained integration coaches work with members with the intention of helping them glean insights after each journey to integrate into their daily lives. Integration can also include practices like yoga, journaling, meditation, mindfulness techniques, or listening to music from the treatment. The idea is to help individuals tap into their inner healer for lasting change.

05

Follow-up

If a member does not have a therapist (or would like additional support), Nushama therapists work with members to integrate learnings into their daily lives for lasting results. Some members may also benefit from additional “booster” sessions. Psychedelics are transformative medicines, but healing requires more than the experience of the journey.
